Who Is This Person And Why Is This News?

From China Digital Times:

Icelandic pop singer Bjork backed independence for Tibet during her concert on Sunday in Shanghai, eyewitnesses said on Monday. She shouted “Tibet, Tibet!” followed by “Raise your flag!” towards the end of her final song, “Declare independence.”

Her protest apparently went unnoticed by the majority of an estimated 3,000 people at the Shanghai International Gymnastics Centre.

I’m glad we have that straightened out.

  1. Bork is really wasting her time echoing the CIA propaganda to the people who actually know the history and state of affiars in Tibet. She needs to be preaching to the Dali Lama and the CIA – for the Dali Lama to get back on the CIA payroll, and for the CIA to re-try their failed 1958 coup.

She might as well be preaching “free Kansas”. I mean they have to pay taxes and obey laws and other awful stuff.

  2. Actually Bjork is wearing UYGHUR national dress on her top and TIBETAN on her lower body. Uyghurs, like Tibets have been struggling for their independance for since chinese occupation in 1955. We, millions of uyhgur have been killed by Chinese government with all sorts of labes as separatist, terrorist….. Young Uyghur girls are forcefully being transfered to China to work in the factories 7 days a week for almost nothing, there are reports that some of them are raped. Uyghur men are not hired, Our language, culture, history are discriminate. There is just no way for Uyghurs to survive in our homeland.
I love Bjork for brining up the issue without the fear of loosing her Chinese fans.

  3. John Galt sounds like typical chinese puppet ignorant of reality and history. What Bjork did was very brave and right. If some Tibetan were to say just word “Tibet”, he/she would be imprisoned for years. C’mon John, open your eyes, you don’t have to kiss red commies ass.

FYI- Dalai Lama was never under CIA payroll.

  4. I’m not going to add anything more to my original post and will therefore not comment on what “John Galt” said.

Just for the record, however, I find Ayn Rand’s stuff boring and a bit juvenile.

  5. well taka, you like bjork and the countless other musicians and entertainers should really hit the books and study chinese history of the past 5000 years before making your truly ignorant comments about freedom, sovereignty and culture. i bet you’ve probably never even been to tibet. so how can you even know what has happened there moreover, the progress that has occurred in the region since the early 80s. so it is a waste of time to even engage you in a discussion which intelligent, informed and learned people do.

  6. >> “I find Ayn Rand’s stuff boring”
    Who is Ayn Rand?

    >> “If some Tibetan were to say just word “Tibet”, he/she would be imprisoned for years.”
Really? Maybe they should just say they’re from Kansas.

    >> “FYI- Dalai Lama was never under CIA payroll.”
His Holiness stated this (160k a year or so), and said that he was a ‘pawn (puppet) of the CIA’ for his part in the coup. Read his books.

    >> “study chinese history of the past 5000 years before making your truly ignorant comments about freedom, sovereignty and culture”
Absolutely. Just studying the last 150 years would illuminate the injustices of the Opium Wars, where the Western world’s government-backed drug pushers almost destroyed China. Not to mention that after Christianity was forcibly introduced into China, the followers of ‘Christ’ proceeded to massacre over 20 million non-believers in what is known as the Taiping Rebellion. The world is not black and white, and simplistic pronouncements of ‘justice’ makes little sense and only serve to exacerbate prejudice and intolerance.
