What’s Not For Dinner

Note to self: do not eat pig’s liver for dinner tonight.

A dish of stir-fried pig’s liver served at a dinner party in Guangzhou, China, poisoned 14 people with what authorities think was an animal feed additive, a Chinese state-run news agency reported.

Wait a minute. I wasn’t planning on eating pig’s liver anyway. I have never eaten pig’s liver and will never ever eat pig’s liver.

I’m glad that’s been cleared up.

Why am I not surprised that this happened in Guangzhou? Actually, I’m surprised that the people were eating something as mundane as pig’s liver. Would have expected pig’s spleen, or pig’s adrenal gland or something.

In all serious, this made CNN, which means it is another international black eye for Brand China when it comes to food, food additives, product quality, etc. Not good at all.

  1. Pig’s spleen is consider a health food in Guangzhou. And cow’s spleen is called sweetbread.

  2. Pig’s liver is pretty standard fare in China. I don’t think there was a preference for muscle meats as oppose to organ meats in China.
