The Long Journey Home
This is my first post since returning to China after a two-year hiatus. It’s been at least three years since I discontinued “Chinablawg”, so it will take some time to get back in the blog groove.
I came back to Beijing about a month ago after being in D.C. for two years. I was doing liaison work for the law firm I work for, Lehman, Lee & Xu. In my spare time, I completed a M.A. in International Relations at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, otherwise known as SAIS.
Getting back to work has been relatively painless since I have been working (remotely) from the U.S. Nice to be back on the ground, however. Beijing is more or less the same, although the traffic is worse, the pollution is worse, and the price of everything is much higher. More on that later, I suspect . . .
My firm has continued Chinablawg in my absence, although it has kind of devolved into an in-house project. We will be relaunching that blog in a week or so, and although I will repost there, I wanted my own space, hence the need for this.
I hope to be as multi-disciplinary in subjects as possible. I am a professional international lawyer who started here in China back in 1998. Legal issues will be plentiful in my posts as well as China business matters, mostly relating to foreign enterprises. I am doing a great deal of intellectual property work now, so expect to see a lot of IP on a regular basis. Additionally, since I studied a great deal of economics over the past couple of years, I will be throwing in some rudimentary analysis and commentary on financial and macro stuff. Round this out with politics and international relations, and you get the idea of where I’m coming from.
I think that about covers the basics. Still need to work on formatting this thing, adding to my profile, etc. Hopefully all that will be up and running before anyone actually accesses this post. That would probably be a safe bet.
Happy to be back in the Blogosphere after a prolonged absence!!!
