Friday Photos: Beijing Horticultural Experiment
No exciting excursions this week, so no breathtaking views of a Beijing tourist attraction for your viewing pleasure today.
On the other hand, this week saw the culmination of a long-awaited scientific experiment that took place right here in capital city, specifically my apartment.
The challenge: successfully grow grass inside a plastic restaurant take-out container in sufficient quantities to satisfy the digestive needs of my cats.
The procedure: grass seed was allowed to germinate with water only for several days, after which time some soil was “appropriated” from a public park (name omitted for legal reasons). Seedlings were transplanted into soil and allowed to continue sprouting.
The result: exceptional growth, excellent taste (I am assuming this based on observations), superior digestive effect.
I will be writing up my lab notes for the next issue of Science, but in the meantime, some pictorial documentation of the specimen and my lab assistant:
Step 1: Initial assessment of the experimental grass.
Step 2: Taste and texture are considered prior to consumption.
Step 3: After all preliminaries check out, the test material is consumed.
Step 4: Though a consummate professional, my lab assistant cannot help but look on with pride at the conclusion of a successful experiment.

Hi Kiki,
Mice to meet you ! Macha and I (I’m Manon) are so proud that you’re actively involved in a famous international experiment. We are so glad that you meet success in your carrier. In our case, we have planted bird seeds to get in a supply of sparrow. We keep trying since that breakthrough is attested (we hope soon).
Cheers,
The dynamic duo of cats
